Music Curriculum Statement

Music gives children the chance to explore different ways of expressing themselves. We follow the ‘Charanga’ scheme of work which allows Key Stage One children to use their voices to sing songs and say chants. They play a range of musical instruments and listen to a mix of recorded music from different genres.

Key Stage Two children are currently learning the guitar with the West Sussex scheme ‘Term2learn’ which enables them to perform in solo and ensemble contexts. Through ‘Charanga’ they improvise and compose music while listening and commenting on a range of music. They begin to learn the staff, musical notation and the history of music.

Early Years children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum to encourage the children to explore their voices, rhythm and musical instruments.

The Year 3 children are able to join the school choir to sing at the school fair and at local care homes.
