Art & Design Curriculum Statement

At Heene, we aim to deliver a high quality art and design education that engages, inspires and challenges all pupils.

We want to stimulate creativity   and imagination and provide the opportunity for children to record from first-hand experience and to use their own ideas in their work. We want to equip our pupils with the knowledge and skills to explore, invent and create their own artworks and to develop a ‘language of art’ in the way that they communicate about art and design.

As the children progress, they will become more proficient and independent in using different media, tools and techniques; their critical awareness and appreciation of the roles and purposes of art and design both historically and culturally  will increase.

They will learn about great artists, craft makers and designers and about the development of different art forms.

By the time the children reach the end of year 6, we want them to be confident in their knowledge and skills in art and design but also have a passion and enthusiasm for the subject that will endure.
